Dr Jack Mills
Started January 2025: Funded by EPSRC
Jack completed his PhD in Oncology at the University of Oxford in the lab of Dr Valentine Macaulay, investigating the role of nuclear insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) receptor in prostate cancer biology. Following his PhD, Jack worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the labs of Dr Macaulay, Dr Jon Elkins (University of Oxford) and Prof Akane Kawamura (Newcastle University) on a collaborative project to develop cyclic peptide inhibitors of the IGF-1 ligand for use in cancer therapeutics. Before joining the University of Bath in January 2025, Jack also worked in the Bristol Renal Group (University of Bristol) carrying out pre-clinical testing of novel diabetic drugs in vivo.
Jack’s current project focusses on developing a phage display platform to allow rapid discovery of covalent macrocycle inhibitors for ‘undruggable’ cancer protein targets.
Outside the lab, Jack enjoys reading, playing sports, trying out new pubs, and is a long-suffering Coventry City FC and England rugby fan.
